Since June 2024: Doctoral researcher at the Collaborative Research Centre (Sonderforschungsbereich 1604) 'Production of Migration' in project B2 “The Production of Mobility Options: Migration and Border Management in the Framework of the Eastern Partnership of the European Union” with a focus on the EU external border between Romania, Ukraine and Moldova. Before starting her PhD, Katharina worked as a project manager at a large German foundation in an international program and coordinated events and communications around global challenges such as EU-Russia-relations, migration, health and climate change. She also spent one year with a scholarship as German lecturer and project manager at Alecu Russo State University in Bălți, Moldova where she coordinated exchange projects between Ukrainian and Moldovan students.
Katharina’s dissertation project analyzes the border practice and the production of mobility options in the border region. Through an ethnographic field research, the project aims to understand the meaning and function of the border for different actors and sheds light on discrepancies between the theoretical and the practical implementation practices.
